It can seem like tug-of-war

“How much?”
“$1000″
“I’ll give you $500″
“Can’t do that. How about $800?”
“That’s still too much. $600.”
“I’ll split the difference – let’s agree on $700.”
Sound all too familiar? Does either party leave that conversation feeling anything less than disgruntled – swindled – taken advantage of – given the short end of the stick?
Proper negotiation should end with both sides knowing the best result was just achieved. When a negotiation is handled properly, an opportunity to do business again and again is there for you.
This article, 10 Techniches for Better Negotiation, provides some great advice regarding negotiation techniques. If you still wonder if you have what it takes, or confident that you don’t have that skill, bring in someone who does.
